The shoes look good but the sizing is a big problem. I bought this pair of Evolve Astroman for someone whose foot corresponds exactly to the measurements given on the Evolve size conversion chart. He is a 42 European; 8 UK; his foot measures 265mm, which corresponds exactly to a size Men's 9 US on the Evolve chart. So I had no reservation buying the Evolve Astroman in 9 US. It is true that these are climbing shoes and street sizes do not always match climbing shoe sizes. However Evolve Astroman in men's 9 US is actually shorter than a women's 8 shoe size. The shoe is much shorter than the 270 mm that it is said to be on the Evolve size chart. The Evolve size chart is inaccurate and people should not rely on it to buy Evolve shoes (despite the fact that Evolve is a specialist in climbing shoes and one would assume that the chart they use as a chart specifically for their shoes should display the measurements of their shoes!). As a result of this inaccuracy one has to buy several pairs of shoes until finally one of them matches one's size. I don't see how difficult it would be to give the exact shoe length. That would help people buy the right shoe (the tightness issue is a different issue depending on the kind of climbing you want to do). Very disappointed with this purchaseSizing info: street shoe size minimum. I fit 39, maybe 38.5 (6.5 or 6us) in street shoe size, and bought a pair in 39 cause it was on sale. Fit is way too tight, by half to 1.5 sizes too small. I nearly took the laces out, that's how far undone they were, and still I could barely get my right foot in - left foot wouldn't even go! As a side note, the toe box felt quite narrow, but again, the pair was clearly too small. Buy a couple of pairs if you can, starting in street size and a full size up, as these run tiny.As for performance, I can only give you these impressions. They are quite flat, and the high tops will protect your ankles. The toe box is fairly low profile, would be good in hand cracks but too large for finger cracks up to maybe 2 or 3ish finger width. When first purchasing the shoes I read some reviews on them for quality, durability, performance, and fit. Overall they seemed like a pretty nice shoe.Something that I really liked was the ankle high, I tend to find myself scraping the wall with my ankle. So I wanted something to protect that and these shoes work great for protection due to the high fit.The quality and durability seem to be great so far, though I have not had them for that long. So far so great. By the way they look and feel they seem that they will hold up great. Now for the size. I originally read some reviews that said to get your regular street shoe size. Reading that, I purchased my street shoe size which is an 8. When I received them I tried them on and they were not even close to fitting. So I exchanged them with no hassle, and got a size up size 9.So overall this seems to be a great shoe. Great durability, grip, and structureGreat, well performing all around shoe. Its all about fit of course. For my foot, normally 10.5 street/running, and a little wider than D in the forefoot, with fairly high arch, I got the best fit of any in these - I did not size down, went with 10.5 M. Perfect fit - end of the toes just barely touch, width is snug enough for no slop on edges without having to crank them down like tourniquets. Can wear 'em for hours without a thought - and they smear, edge, and jam just great. Construction seems solid after several months regular (several times per week) use. My other favorite shoes are TC Pros - have to size those down a half, because they do stretch a bit. The Astromans don't seem to break in as big and have stayed about the same as out of the box. Try 'em on, you may really dig them. The shoe fits at about street shoe size. I tried to size 1/2 down and it was way to painful. A tiny bit loose at street shoe size, which makes it good for all day wear but not for your hardest climbs.I normally wear a size 10 shoe. I got the Astroman size 11 and I could hardly get them over my heel, I gave them away. I thought surely if I got the 12s they'd fit. Wrong. Those, too, are excruciating. I was really looking forward to owning a good pair of high tops for trad. I suppose the Astroman isn't the shoe for me. Anybody need some size 12s?Good trad shoes. Just a warning, fits about 1 size smaller. I usually wear 8.5 men's with evolv but had to return and get a 9.5.I wear size 11 running shoe and these fit well enough to climb hardish (5.10) with now problem.
