I bought this for my husband because the one he had (for about 4 years) he wore until it fell apart. We bought the XXL because we couldn't find the tag on his old jacket, but wish we went with XL. The inside pockets are a huge plus so he can keep his phone protected while he does his work.I had been wanting a Carhartt jacket for a while. My fiance' wanted to buy me one for my birthday a few months ago while it was still cold here inTexas, but we couldn't find one in my size in the stores at the time so she got me something else. A few weeks ago, I received an email from amazon about a sale on the same jacket I was interested in and it was 30% off retail price. As usual, I did my homework and looked at reviews extensively as well as other jacket styles. I almost went with a lighter weight jacket, but glad I didn't, as I have several ligh weight jackets already. The reviews seemed to all suggest the jacket runs large so, I ordered a medium as I am 5'11" 170 lbs. and normally a large in jackets. I'm glad I did because the medium fits near perfectly. I'm sure the large would be way too bulky on me. If I fully extend my arms over my head, the jacket does expose my stomach a bit and the cuffs do ride up my wrists slightly, however this is to be expected and happens with my other, large sized jackets as well. I'm sure that in extreme cold climates, you would want to go for your normal size so the jacket could be worn over multiple layers, but for me in Texas, I feel this jacket will keep my warm with only a single layer underneath on the coldest of days.Carhartt products are no longer made in the USA, however the fabric used does still come from US providers. The construction seems very sturdy. The jacket is a bit stiff, but after one wash, it is a bit more loose. I was looking for a rugged jacket and this fits the bill. I expect this jacket will hold up through the roughest situations and last many years. I love the quilted lining, it is very comfortable. The arms are quilted as well, but not with flannel like the rest of the jacket. This is designed to let you get your arms through even while wearing a long sleeve shirt underneath. The inner pockets are a great feature and while the outer pockets aren't lined, they are spacious and comfortable enough for hands. The zipper is very rugged and takes a little persuasion sometimes, as expected from a heavy-duty zipper. The hood is spacious and comfortable. It does add some bulk just behind the neck, but I'd rather have it there if needed than not. It does have pull strings to fit more snugly if needed. The arms and waist have elastic bands to keep out any drafts when it is windy and they are just as heavy-duty as the rest of the jacket.Overall, I am very satisfied with this jacket. I haven't worn it besides trying it on a few times yet, but I don't imagine I'll change my mind when I do.CONS:1. The continuing problem with these non-removable hoodie work jackets from Carhartt is the hoodie itself. It's attachment to the shoulder of the jacket is too short for most people (I guess to save money on material). What this means, function wise, is a worn hoodie that actually pushes down on the top of your head, while it's also lifting up the entire jacket from the shoulders. It's uncomfortable and even useless to use while working in the cold. Turning your head while wear the hoodie is impossible. No, I do not have a long neck or a large head, it's Carhartt's cheap decision to cut costs.2. The inner fabric is horrid to the touch. Many men work with their hands who wear these jackets. Their hands are rough, that roughness and this fabric is the most unpleasant feeling I've ever experienced on a jacket lining. Again, the material was most likely chosen to save money. Nobody in they right mind would have selected this material in such an iconic jacket, unless to save money.3. A zipper is only good if it works when it's needed. This one fights you every time you need it. Expect to spend twice as long zipping up in the cold as with other jacket brands, as Carhartt hangs on the zipper's feed line from the thick creases of the outer fabric.4. The biggest problem is Carhartt's younger customer base, and this actually affects it's quality. They're mostly now-working users, and so turn a blind eye to these flaws, and thus Carhartt never fixes them. Shop around. There are other quality work jackets out there now.5. Overpriced. WAY overpriced (in 2021)!PROS:1. It's a classic now. It looks good, and it's now a designer symbol to many--for what that's worth.2. It's warm! For the lightness of its weight, it's very warm.3. So far, I can tell the triple stitching and the outer fabric are extremely durable. It's like armor from the cold. It's built well (minus the short neck hoodie).4. After broken in, should be a good investment in the years to come. This model jacket is getting hard to find these days, and Carhartt stopped making it.My last Carhartt Jacket was purchased 15, or more, years ago. Towards the end of its life, the ends of both sleeves were deteriorating so much that I had to retire it.Fast forward to 2022, I decided to see if Carhartt had made improvements on the sleeves, so I check this out on Amazon and the picture of the Jacket shows the sleeves had been improved, so I ordered one and crossed my fingers.I received the Jacket today and sure enough, the overall quality was still excellent, and the sleeves were modified to prevent deterioration. Way to go Carhartt!I live in the Atlanta, Georgia area, and this jacket has proven to be a good all winter jacket for me. Temps at and just above freezing with mild winds are our normal cold. It remains comfortable to wear in the 40s to low 50s F (5 - 13 C) if I'm not overly active.Fit wise:I got a medium, and the fit of the jacket is about as good as any for me without getting something tailored. I'm 6'4" at 175 lbs - tall and thin - 91 in (231 cm) arm span (finger tip to finger tip.) I have to compromise on the fit of most clothes, and I have tried on a large Carhartt jacket before, and it's just too large for me in both the waist and chest. The medium is slightly larger than I want in the waist, but the chest is good. The problem for me is the arms are a little short, but I expected that, and they are not overly short, and I'm used to that type of fit. It's only when I fully bend my arms that the jacket rides up and exposes a part of my arm.Overall the jacket is comfortable and I like the way it looks.I've had one of these jackets for years and, as I bought it in the USA I was surprised to be able to buy in the UK. The original is getting tired and is now relegated to keeping out the weather when dog walking - the wind just does not penetrate these jackets and the hood is a great head warmer! So I've bought a new one knowing exactly what I was getting. Just be aware that the zip zips up 'the ladies way' as on all US clothing which is no big deal. Also the XL size equates to a UK XXL. Great product. This jacket is warm and well madeI am 5ft 7 I have a 42" chest and 32" waist normally I would buy a large.I ordered a large but it was way to big I returned the jacket to Amazon and re ordered a small size which fits me better as I can still have jumper or hooded jumper on under the jacket. These jackets are made in USA Mexico And they are much bigger in size because of the style of jacket than European sizing. I would measure a jacket you already own to compare sizes before ordering. 5 star rating for the jacketGood quality but It has problem with sleeves it comes shorter than usual size used to wear I tried it for several sizes of the same product and different sellers and still same problem it comes either huge or short dleeves ! You have to choose!!love it. I am a medium person (1.72cm / 65kg), went with size ‘S’ as I know that carhartt products are quite baggy.perfect fit, keeps you warm.Excellent jacket that will last for years probably! However these are USA sizes so they are big-i brought XXL as I've a 50" chest with belly to match and reckon I could probably fit into a XL so think carefully about what size to go for.
