I used this product for backpacking and hiking. I wanted a boot that fit like a tennis shoe. Theses are super comfortable, water proof, but still breathable. I’ve worn in various weather conditions from sunny days to snow. I’ve combined these from simple short hikes to 3 day camping trips I’ve had the same pair for 3 years and put in hundreds of miles with 30 lbs of gear and have only replaced the inserts and still have tons of tread. I’ve been in the mountains of Montana to the desert of Arizona and many hills and valleys between. This pair specifically is wonderful. It took no time to break in. My feet may have hurt the first few times after short hikes but after that good to go. As a disclaimer I bought the “winter version” of these vasques. it was a waste of money they were only slightly warmer and build quality was subpar. The lace hooks broke and the tread wore down faster and I only wore them one winter season, mostly hikes and snowshoeing. With that said I put on warmer socks and gaiters and got the same effects with these boots. Snow shoes, ice spikes that you attach to your shoes, I forget the real name lol. Mud dirt water submersion all good with respect to how deep a puddle you step in. I’ve kicked rocks on trails with good foot protection. I also have flat feet and prefer a wider toe box and these shoes worked out fine. I got them for less than 100 bucks and can say I love these shoes.Vasque has a good reputation. I have heard their customer service is user friendly too. The price from Amazon was outstanding but at this size, not other sizes. I know as I own a pair & sent back another, that Vasque is narrow in toe box. I looked forward to the Vasque St. Elias boots that I bought as their reviews on quality were top notch. I have an average width foot and they were just too narrow. I returned them. I bought the Breeze shoes from Vasque & went up a half size. They were priced great & they fit, excellent! Now on these Ultra Dry boots from Vasque, I tried purchasing a wide boot, which I never did before. The width on their wide boot fits me, good decision. However, one boot feels a tad small but as I said, is wide enough. I shall keep them and hope with wear that they stretch just a bit. For some reason the 9.5 wide were priced much better than other possible sizes. If they do work out, I would then have gotten a high quality boot at a real good price value. I like good quality hiking boots but I also know about value.Pro:I love these boots, they've served me very well on several hikes throughout the rocky southwest (and several long walks up and down Manhattan). They've got excellent grip!! I took them up to the top of Angels Landing in Zion when it was all frosted over and covered in ice and they held their ground! The ankle support is great, they are fairly breathable, they obviously aren't as light as hiking shoes, but they've also never felt heavy on my feet even after miles of walking.Con:They do tend to feel tight on my feet when I am not walking. I guess my feet swell up from the hiking and they start to hurt, but the second I start moving again they feel comfortable as ever. Not sure if that's my feet or the boots, I'm assuming the boots since it doesn't happen with other pairs of shoes I own. Not a huge deal since I spend more time moving in them than not, but when I stop to take a break or finish hiking I really feel them squeeze and it's fairly uncomfortable.Would still buy again any day, they are a real quality pair of boots.amazon says "Fit: True to size. Order usual size" that statement couldn't be any further from the truth. i wear a size 9 wide, so i ordered as such. i've had them since june 2019 (it's now feb 2021!), and up to this day they STILL feel brand new, meaning they feel tight in the toes and haven't been able to break them in despite having gone on several hikes and camping trips in them. i have ordered a wooden screw-actuated shoe stretcher in the hopes of fixing the issue, but to no avail. maybe i'm not stretching them enough, but i'm scared to over stretch them and ruin the watertight stitching and whatnot.so far, they've been great in water; my socks/feet come out feeling totally dry despite being in ankle-deep water. i'm no expert on hiking shoes, but having to use a pair of superfeet to supplement what they're lacking in terms of support isn't a good sign for them.all in all, i wish i could return them, but i'm waaaaay beyond the return deadline at this point. i wish i knew they ran small. For hiking I usually use the Vasque Breeze. I like the bounce they give to my step. When I saw the Monolith, I though, okay, maybe a little lighter. Could be good for day hikes. Wow! Was I surprised! 1. I have a 12 arch and usually go with a 12 boot, but my foot length is about an 11. So my sizing is not your sizing. I went with an 11 1/2; have plenty of room in the toe, both width and length. I use a wool hiking sock, but I also tried a lighter weight Thorlo hiking sock and it worked great. 2. I can hike with a light (10 pound) day pack with good support. 3. They do not quite have the bounce of the Breeze, but they make up for that in lightness of weight and flexible sole. 4. They are waterproof. 5. Very comfortable, but what was so revealing was that unlike a backpacking boot, I had a much better feel for the trail. I'm not used to that, but quickly learned to enjoy it. Love 'em! I will update on wear in the future.I love these boots for their toughness and lightness. I use them when working on my very rough, rocky land in the Texas Hill Country. I do extremely hard outdoor work and I need a boot that is tough but that is not so heavy it tires me out as I haul heavy brush and limbs over rough ground.I bought my first pair of these two years ago, along with a pair of heavier, taller boots. I've worn the other pair ponlhy once. These Vasques immediately became my go-to boot.I just bought another pair of the same model because the first pair are finally starting to break apart from the constant abuse I've given them. I looked at other boots, but nothing seems as good as these for my needs. These are exactly what I wanted but I would not have been able to make the purchase properly without reading the reviews. I never would have ordered the Wide model but as some reviews said they were a bit narrow I adjusted my order. Thanks to all the people who take the time to write these reviews.... not the first time they helped me!
