I have wider than average feet and had bunion surgery in the past, so I'm sensitive to tight shoes. I searched for over a year trying various extra wide (XW) shoes before finding the Clarks Un.Bend, which is the predecessor of the Un Ramble. I really appreciated the Un.Bend because it was the only shoe I could find that took the XW size seriously and offered real comfort, in addition to just being a very durable and well build shoe. It was pretty much my only option. Now enters the Un Ramble, which is a sign that some people, somewhere, at some company, actually listen to their customers and design to their needs. Way to go Clarks! The Un Ramble has improved upon the Un.Bend in a few key areas:1) It's lighter, probably about 30% lighter. The outsole seems to be very durable and well built, but just from lighter material so you don't feel like you're clomping about.2) The toe box is taller. My actual problem is not that my feet are so wide, but that they are exceptionally thick. I needed to get extra wide shoes just to ensure there was enough space in the toe box for my thick foot. Even for the Un.Bend, the best option on the market I could find, I had to snip the stitching at the bottom of the laces to make more room for my thick foot to feel comfortable. The Un Ramble didn't need any alterations and felt great the first try.3) The shoe is more narrow. Holding an 11XW Un Bend against an 11XW Un Ramble, the Un Ramble is about a quarter inch more narrow. I almost sent them back without trying them on. But this design decision also works better for my feet since the shoe molds to the side of my foot better and provides better grip for more controlled walking.Somehow the folks at Clarks figured out that what some of us really needed was not necessarily a super wide shoe, but rather a quite wide shoe with a taller toe box and lacing section for a thicker foot. The combination makes this the most comfortable shoe I've worn in many years. I wore the previous Clarks because they were the least uncomfortable shoe on the market, I wear these new Clarks because they feel great! Highly recommend. Now I need to buy like 10 of them...
