I'm 6'4", 225 pounds, and have an active lifestyle, skateboarding and biking on platform pedals. My shoes are not going to have an easy life, but my demands seem like reasonable, common expectations. It's surprisingly hard meeting these demands no matter the budget: Durable. Stiff flex. Human foot wide. Good or replaceable inserts. Resilient foot bed core materials. Comfortable and stylish. Not prone to stink. My solution to this problem for decades has been the original Keen Bronx. My first pair were my exclusive daily drivers for a couple years before I had to consider replacing them. I've tried several unsatisfactory Keens over the years. Maybe 20 years ago when they replaced the Bronx with the Bronx II, (identifiable by arched eyestay and a different sole that was nowhere near as durable) I bought and hoarded original Bronx from eBay for over a decade. That well is dry and my last pair of original Bronx are ready for the trash. These Austins are my newest hope for a Bronx replacement. Before ordering I tried canvas Austins on at a local retailer and was surprised I needed to go down .5 from my usual Keen 12 (46).Keen nails the Austin fit and comfort, with the exception of the insert, which seems like it was designed by Keens accounting department, then went through marketing, before going to manufacturing. Too thin and floppy to offer any real support or much cushion. I pop in the older more supportive Keen inserts and we're in business. Toe box is uncramped. No weird pressure points. No normal pressure points like the Achilles and front tendons. Uppers feel a bit stiffer structurally than I expect from a canvas shoe, more like a boot, but 0 miles on these so expect they'll flex easier as they break in.Beneath the insole I see just what I like: A durable looking felt core stitched to the uppers. These should survive cycles soaking and drying in sweat, streams, or weather. The sole of the original Bronx was the same Keen still uses on the Newport Sandal, but tragically not on any shoes for some reason. None of the other Keens soles I've tried have been nearly as durable as the Newport, some wearing through to the spongy core after a couple months, then disintegrating rapidly. The sole of the Austin seems to be of quality construction, but I won't know for a few months.I like the Austin's fairly flat, unobtrusive tread for skating and biking, a willing sacrifice of traction on loose surfaces or wintery streets. The flex feels stiff and supportive, just as I prefer.Short of bringing the original Bronx back, Keen could just glue the Newport sole to the Austin upper, upgrade the inserts, and I'd have a winner. You listening Keen? I've bought a dozen pairs of your Bronx used at no profit to you, and countless other shoes, all money I'd gladly have given to Keen for new pairs of my old favorite. I'm hopeful I have a runner-up favorite shoe in the Austin. They look really nice. First time we've seen canvas uppers. The color is olive and it's really nice..We just got them yesterday. My husband has bought Keens before and they fit perfectly. I wish it was that easy for women. They came from Amazon.uk.com which surprised me. They got here in record time just before we leave on our trip.Recent purchase of the Austin Canvas Black Iris/Safari based on style and the Keen name. Keen was out of stock in my size, so these were purchased elsewhere.Positive- Typical Keen fit with nice roomy toe box- True to size- Like the color combination Navy canvas w/brown & cream sole materialNeutral- Arch support is no better or worse than other Keen shoes- The HTT drop feels much less on these than leather Keens, the Voyageur for example. Perhaps Keen can confirm this- The canvas is stiff - hopefully will feel better after break in- Made in IndiaNegative- Not as comfortable as leather Keens out of the box- Thin/cheap insole- The sole is hard with virtually no cushionToo early to comment on construction/longevityroomy toe box, firm support. I could see maybe adding a foam insert to soften a little on the inside. Overall a nice everyday alternative to a tennis shoe.Lo recibí el 13 agosto 22. Se ve de buena calidad, no lo he probado aún, por eso le doy 5 estrellas, con el pasar del tiempo, actualizaré de ser necesario. Debo indicar que trae otro par de cordeles de color azulI ordered these shoes because they are casual, looks great with jeans. They are lighter weight than my leather Keens and the canvas should prove to be cooler. Great shoe to wear between mud season and the hot summer.I had a leather pair that lasted around 8 years! I forgot about these shoes. I have troll feet. These shoes are made for troll feet. My toes are happy. I do wish they had a tad bit more support but... hey this shoe has room for inserts! We will see how these hold up as the material is canvas.I thought these shoes were very stiff and would not be comfortable but it is now my favorite pair of shoes. I did have to upgrade the arch support as I do all shoes .The fit is fantastic for my feet, which are wide at the front, regular at the back and have a high arch. For canvas shoes, these are pretty stiff, which to me is a good thing for outdoorsy pursuits. The lacing is very grippy, too, won't slip, and is easy to secure comfortably with the padded tongue. Shame more or softer padding was not applied to the topline, because the rear tends to dig into the heel at times - wear thick socks! Ankle socks were a no-go. The sole has excellent traction and flexes well. Pebbles tend to get trapped in the narrow grooves, though, so watch out for that.Aside from the sock/padding issue (and maybe the pebble trapping), I have no complaints. Too few makes have a wide toe available (without making the whole shoe wide). Tip: if you find yourself between sizes on the Keen size chart, go for the smaller. The fit is generous.Finish inside toe box is extremely lacking/sucks; I have 14EEE feet, I ordered size 16 and the seam cuts my little toe like a hacksaw! Shoddy. Too tight/I don't want to have to wear an extra pair of socks. Disappointed/returned!These shoes are very comfortable but the light coloured canvas uppers are best worn only in good weather as I think any mud would soon sully them. They look good but tend not to breathe too freely, so can be a tad hot in warm weather
