I bought these after several years of using the Brooks S-257, which I bought from a local company which put customers on a treadmill and video recorded their gaits, and then recommended shoes (sadly no longer in business). Since that time I have been a less-than-serious runner, but in the last 2 years decided to get more serious/consistent about running. 257's got to the point of some pain after I would run a 5K, so I decided to start looking for a replacement. So as a complete novice, I know NOTHING about running shoes. I remember that I'm a mild over-pronator with somewhat flat feet. Time for Google.I started out with Brooks, because after all, they lasted me several years and were comfortable (if a bit heavy). Of course my trusty 257's have since been long discontinued. So after reading a lot of comparisons and reviews, I had to decide between (previous model) Brooks Adrenaline GTS 18 (on clearance, good price), or the new model Adrenaline GTS 19. Being frugal, I figured the 18's would be the best bet (saving $40). Also ordered the ASICS Mens Gel-Cumulus 19.The Cumulus are not great at all. They felt half broken-in after the first run, and my feet and hips were in some pain for a couple of days.. NOPE.Next run, GTS 18. Not as bad as the Cumulus, but still had that shockey kind of pain in my feet after running. The pain would last a day or more, so no good. Was really surprised that such a highly-rated shoe would hurt my feet and hips! So, time to bite the bullet and spend the dough-rey-me. Decided I would do my own comparison and ordered the Asics GT-2000 7 and these GTS 19.Was excited about the "rail" in the GTS 19. Revolutionary. Awesome. Best thing since sliced bread... but not for me. They really feel fine for the first mile or so (which I run in around 7 minutes), but then fatigue begins to set in, and I really have to kinda watch my gait. By mile two still ok, but have to begin considering my steps. The shoes are feeling kinda thin. I mean... I'm getting tired, and what form I may have becomes less than professional. Have to pay attention to try to monitor each step. But.. I only have 1.1 miles left. As I draw to a finish I don't care much about my gait. I'm just dragging my tired rear-end across the finish. At this point, I'm more concerned with salvaging my time and trying to finish strong and keep that spring in my step. BUT, my feet are feeling a bit worn (no pain, just tired), and feel like I should concentrate on each step, or I might actually hurt my feet. Also noticed that the tongue area was kind of rubbing the front of my ankle in an uncomfortable way. The shoe never really felt secure on my foot. I personally do not like tight-fitting shoes, but no matter how loose I tied them, the opening around the ankle felt stiff and kinda annoying. Like a stiff collar on a shirt. Is this really my best option?????Yesterday I tried out the Asics GT 2000 7. I ran my second best ever time. I didn't even think much about it. My feet never hurt, I don't remember actively concentrating on how my steps were coming down. I sit here typing this the next day, and my feet or hips don't hurt at all Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the Asics are more like my classic 257's.The GTS 19's will be going back.My son is an over pronator and always struggled in sports complaining from arch pain, knee pain and back pain. He was going into a military youth program where he’d be involved in PT several hours a day. I reviewed several shoes and bought the two best ones I could find based on reviews and what fit my budget. One pair were ASICS and these were the 2nd pair. He got the ASICS first and really liked them. But once he got these, he said that these were the best sneakers he’s ever worn. His reasons were that they were extremely light weight as if he wasn’t wearing shoes at all, they look good (he didn’t feel like he looked like a dork in them), arch support was really good and impressive, and the back around below his ankle was soft enough that it didn’t hurt or dig into the back of his foot. It’s been about 2 months now that he’s been away and he still writes me saying that these shoes are holding up well and still his favorite go to pair for PT, while the other pair (ASICS) are good too but these are his favorite. He has no pain and runs 3 miles everyday in these shoes.I was very impressed myself and happy that I found these for him. Size was perfect fit and true to his foot size. These are an attractive shoe, well made, durable and great for people that have a low arch, flat feet and over pronators like my son. I highly recommend these shoes and I will continue to buy them for my son. These shoes stay in my Amazon favorites list. I hope they keep these on the market. My son is 16 1/2 years old, soon to be 17, 5’ 8.5” and weighs 212 pounds.Pros:- I am recovering from plantar fasciitis and these are extremely comfortable. Had to give up the Asics Foundations I love since they didn't have enough cushioning for the condition, even after a year and my foot mostly back to normal- Nice and roomy toe box - my feet are wide at the front and narrow at the back, and these fit perfectly- Arch is good for those with flat feet - not too much of an arch so they don't have a pressure point under the arch to aggravate your feetCons:- As the headline says, the sole wore off under the outside of the balls of my feet in a single month. If I need 12 pairs of these per year, that is ~$1,400 per year worth of shoes and I can't justify that- At that point the shoes lost support under my feet since the angle became weird given they now tilt outward. I believe this is called overpronation - your foot strikes the ground on the outside and rolls inward to the big toe area. The shoes are doing what they are supposed to initially which is to manage that, but given how fast they wear they quit doing supporting the overpronation.- Styling is a bit staid. I don't necessarily want them to scream LOOK AT ME in neon pink and lime green, but these are only one notch above the New Balance dad memes you see. Not so bad I wouldn't buy them again thoUpdate: I bought a second pair of these and the sole wear was a lot better so maybe the first pair was from a defective batch, but they still wore faster than a any of the many Asics, Mizunos, and NBs I have worn. Brooks really needs to fix this...I took the chance on a second pair given how comfy these are, and the Asics GT-2000 that were recommended by Asics as replacements for their Foundations ended up also being too stiff or too much arch for my plantar fasciitis. I was having to take a break at the half hour mark and stretch my left foot and calf, and then would have a bit of an ache the next day. None of those pain/soreness issues with the Brooks Adrenalines so I gave it another go.Still undecided if I will go for the Adrenaline GTS 20s that replace these and hope the sole wear issue is fixed, or go back to the Asics GT-2000s and hope my foot toughens up.I'm sad to say that I'm genuinely very excited about this shoe. The 2019 GTS has had a major redesign of the shoe uppers. And with that I am pleased to say that the stitched toe cap has been removed. For me these nearly always are the first thing to break. The front part of the shoe upper is now one continuous piece of fabric, which I'm hoping will be much harder wearing. I've just finished running this shoe in and the fit and feel is the same as previous generations, if not better. So I am very happy with my purchase and optimistic about how this shoe is going to work out in the long term [UPDATE: 100+ miles, no issues or loss of comfort]. And that's the review, but if you want to find out why I feel so positive then read the epic follow on below.I've been buying adrenaline GTS shoes every year for over 10 years. I run the same distance every week, same pace, same surface. I try to get a year out of them (which puts them on about 1000 miles). My typical GTS experience is that I buy them, after 8-9 months the toe cap starts coming unstitched, and by a year they are dangerous to run in (as my big toe is usually poking out the end). The exception to this is the GTS 11 and GTS 12 which lasted 14 months+ (I still have the 2012 model as my backup pair of running shoes). From 2012 the GTSs (while outwardly seeming virtually identical to previous versions) steadily deterioriated in quality until the GTS 17, which were absolutely awful. I had two 2017 pairs - the sole of the first came unglued in 3 months and the same happened to the second pair plus the toecap came unstitched within 6 months. But the GTS 18 - that was a fine shoe. Mine lasted well over a year (until the achilles padding wore out a couple of weeks back - which I think is one of the honorable ends for a running shoe). In my opinion the GTS 18 was the best shoe they've produced since the GTS 12. But the GTS 19 looks like it could be even better. If you squint you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between the 12 and the 18. But the 19 is a different animal completely - it looks like a modern shoe. I'm hoping that the major redesign is an indication that they have taken feedback and improved the shoe. As opposed to just cranking the GTS handle. As always, time will tell.I've been using Brooks Ravenna for several years now, and I find them a great shoe, light, springy and feel fast. But recently after suffering from several small injuries I found my toes (mainly 2nd) take a hammering during longer runs to the point where they are swollen and bruised. I think this is a result of over pronation. I can't even remember when I last had normal toe nails on these toes.Anyway I thought I'd try the new GTS 19, which has slightly more support and what a difference.. I've done 2 runs now, one short (7k) and one longer (15k) and I've certainly felt a difference. Firstly this shoe is so comfortable, there is a lot of protection from the hard surface (something I like).Secondly it feels like there is less pressure on my toes during and after running. The shoe feels fast, or fast enough for me. So far so good. I've tried the GTS before (15 I think) and didn't get on with it, but this is a massive improvement. I went 1/2 a size up on my normal shoe size and the fit is perfect. So, if you are looking for a comfortable supportive shoe give this a go.Was recommended these as I have knee problems and a slipped disc inmy back. I walk a bit with work and alsways end the day with extremely sore knees. Wearing these shoes instsntly stopped this and I am now in no pain whilst walking at all. They really are wonderful. Showed them to my osteopath, a man who always knows more than I do about everything. Was amazed when he told me they are the only show he recommends. So that's rare praise indeed. I ordered half a size larger than my normal shoe and they fit perfectly.I usually buy Brooks Beasts but have found the last few pairs too heavy and not great quality.I have also purchased Brooks GTS previously and found them to be light weight but became worn down quite quickly (I run half marathons regularly and clocked up 1200 miles last year). These ones do not feel as light weight, more stable and better around the toes.So far I have enjoyed training in them.I have bad pain in my feet on walking and this has got worse over several years despite differing treatments. I have tried numerous pairs of shoes and tried these after seeing reviews of how comfortable they are. I was delighted by my first pair over 6 months ago and they have transformed my ability to walk more than small distances. The pain is much reduced and I am walking 5 or more miles a day. I was so pleased that I have bought 2 more pairs! I cannot recommend these highly enough.
