These shoes are wonderful. Though they're slip-ons, my feet stay secure and don't slide around in them. They're made of a beautifully finished, soft, supple leather that stretches to conform to my feet. The sheepskin insoles are really comfortable. In fact, these are the most comfortable dress shoes I own, due also in part to the fact that they have flexible rubber soles, as opposed to my leather-soled or stiffer rubber/man-made soles. It feels like I'm wearing slippers. And the uppers appear to be genuine calfskin as advertised, and full grain leather, as they only get small hairline creases from walking which are barely noticeable and mostly disappear after returning them to the shoe trees. These shoes run "big". I ordered size 13 and they seem to be a 14 in length. They are clearly larger than my other size 13 shoes. But fortunately, my feet are not slipping out of them and I have narrow feet. Definitely order smaller than your expected size. If you want to be safe, order 1/2 size smaller than your regular ordered size of other shoes. I did not return them. They are a nice looking shoe and I have received compliments on them from the ladies in the office.I have had at least 8 pairs of J&M's through the years and have been very happy with all of them. In fact most were worn until I scuffed them up so bad they were unwearable. Upon wearing them for the first time there was a like creak in the left heal when I walked. Not that big of a deal, but over time this got worse and then the right heal started squeaking and the left got so bad that I sounded like I needed knee replacements when I walked into a room. It is so bad now that I am embarrassed to wear them. It took 3-4 months for this to develop so I haven't tried to return them. I did take them into a local J&M store just to show them what was happening and maybe get some advice and as soon as I started saying "I bought these online..." the RUDE sales associate interrupted me before I could even finish my sentence and said "I can't help you if you didn't buy them from here". Sorry but they may have just lost a lifetime customer. Bottom line...my last pair of J&M's were made in Italy, these are not...but price is the same.Honesty it's a good looking shoe. It has a strange lumpy insole. I suppose that would make them soft to walk in. They're just too tight for me. I normally wear 11.5 to 12. I bought size 12. They're tight all over. It might be that the lumpy insole shrinks the interior down. Unfortunately they're going back. I gave them 4 stars for looks. I can't blame the shoe for not fitting my feet.I expected a wide size to be a little wider. These are breaking in slowly to accommodate my foot width, but they were initially pretty uncomfortable in regards to the width. The cushion of the soles is adequate. The appearance is exactly as is in the photos. These are reasonable shoes for business casual. This is the first review I have written in my life and I have purchased hundreds of items online. Some I have liked and others not so much. Let me start out by saying I've owned Johnston and Murphy shoes almost exlusively for the last 12-15 years. I like the fit, style, quality and value. This particular shoe fits nice, has a great style (imo) and was a good value. Where this shoe fell terribly short this time around was the quality. The leather looks and feels more "platicy" then other J&M shoes I've owned in the past. The one thing I can't live with either is a squeaky shoe. These shoes squeak so incredibly loud to the point I can't wear them in the office due to the embarassment. I only wear them 1-2 times a week and I figured they just had to be broken in and the squeaking would go away. No luck. If anything they have gotten worse. The other dozen or so J&M shoes I purchased in the past didn't have this issue. They were great right out of the box. Now after two months I need to replace $150 shoes because of squeaking. Very disappointed. I hope this shoe was a defect and not a trend of the quality that J&M is going to start putting out. Buy at your own risk. This shoes is difficult to beat for the cost. The sole is nice and grippy for walks from the train station to the office during inclement weather (leather soles frequently give way on snow or icy surfaces). It also provides a ton of cushion with each step, very similar to my ECCO Windsor slip-ons. The leather is buttery soft, and the look is great with slacks, as well as chinos. Perhaps a bit too much gloss for jeans. Just a great all around shoe for the office. Was expecting the shoes to be a bit stiff until broken in (as most are), but these were comfortable right out of the box. Feel even better than they look and they look great.update: bought these same shoes in black. Fit was same as the brown but the leather is not of the same quality. these scuffed (actually have small sections that peeled away). I wore them the same as I have the brown but not to the same effect. My brown pair still look good and occassional polish they look like new. I cannot say the same for the black. I gave the brown pair 5 stars but my experience with the black has me downgrading them to a 2. Would not have believed it was possible to have such a difference in quality if I hadn't experienced it myself
